Abstract
This is a disturbing but deeply beautiful book, written by a man who has pleaded the cause of the world's poor and powerless to readers and hearers over half the globe.
Dom Helder has thrice been suggested for the Noble Peace Prize by national Protestant Churches, national and international workers organizations and numerous youth groups in Western Europe.
Clearly not an "establishment" figure, he has for years challenged the indifferent and complacent in universities, churches and labor movements in North America, Europe and Latin America. His experiences have led him to conclude that "institutions as such are unable to engage in bold and decisive action because they have to e directly or indirectly bound up with the system in order to survive".
This experience has also led him to another, more challenging, conclusion, which forms the urgent call which is the message of this book. People who are seeking peace, love and justice are everywhere in the minority but, like Abraham, they could become "fathers of great people".
